Sarah Richards – Goytrey

In the name of God Amen. I Sarah Richards of the parish of Goytrey in the county of Monmouth, spinster, being in good health of body and of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, praised be to God for the same, do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say:

I give and bequeath to my loveing friend Ann, the daughter of Henry Rogers of the parish of Mamhilad in the said county of Monmouth the sum of thirty pounds.

Also I give and bequeath to Mary, the second daughter of the said Henry Rogers the sum of thirty pounds.

Also I give and bequeath to Jabez the son of the said Henry Rogers the sum of twenty pounds.

Also I give and bequeath the corner cupboard with its contents to the aforesaid Mary Rogers.

All the rest and residue of my goods, chattles and effects of what nature or kind soever or wheresoever the same may be at the same time of my death I give and bequeath to Henry Rogers whom I appoint sole executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void all former will or wills by me at any time made.

In witness whereof I, the said Sarah Richards have hereunto set my hand and seal this 14th day of October in the year of our Lord 1836.

I give, devise and bequeath unto David Jenkins and Elizabeth his wife, who are now residing with me, all my estate, real and personal whatsoever and wheresoever the same may be at the time of my death.

And I appoint the said David Jenkins to be executor of this my will, hereby revoking all former wills by me at any time made.

In the name of God Amen I Sarah Farquhar widow of the parish of Goytre in the County of Monmouth being of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding but mindful of my mortality do this ninth day of October in the year of our Lord 1834 make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say. First I desire to be decently buried in the churchyard of Trevethin without any funeral pomp and with as little expence as may be.

Also I give and bequeath unto my sister Mary Cotton of London the sum of thirty pounds.

Also I give and bequeath unto my brother Samuel Hill the sum of thirty pounds.

Also I give and bequeath unto my sister Jane Cleobury the sum of thirty pounds.

Also I give and bequeath unto my nephew Francis Hill of Pontypool the sum of five pounds.

Also I give and bequeath unto my niece Mary Jacob of London the sum of five pounds.

The above legacies to be payed within twelve months after my decease in full.

Also I give and bequeath the residue of my personal property to be equally divided between my seven children viz, Anne the wife of the Revd J Evans, Llanover; John Farquhar; Mary Farquhar; James Farquhar; Elizabeth Farquhar; Jane Farquhar; Sarah Farquhar after payment of my just debts funeral and testamentary expences and the expences attending the execution of this my Will. It is my will that the legacy bequeathed to my daughter Jane Farquhar shall be for her sole use. And I hereby direct my executors herein after named to stand possessed thereof in trust for her. The legacies to my said several children to be paid within twelve months after my decease. And I do hereby ordain and appoint my son John Farquhar and my son in law the Rev Jno Evans executors of this my last Will and Testament. Appeared Personally John Farquhar of the Town of Bridgwater in the County of Somerset Gentleman and the Reverend John Evans of the parish of Lanover in the County of Monmouth, Clerk, the joint   Executors named in the last Will and Testament         of the said   Sarah Farquhar formerly of Goytra but       late of the parish of Ragland         in the said County of Monmouth widow         deceased, who died on the   eleventh         day of   December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty four     and made Oath that the Estate and Effects of the said deceased, for and in respect of which a Probate of the said Will is to be granted, exclusive of what the said deceased may have been possessed of or entitled to as a Trustee for any other Person or Persons, and not beneficially, and without deducting any thing on account of the Debts due and owing from the said deceased, are under the value of one thousand   Pounds, to the best of these       Deponent’s knowledge, information, and belief. In the Name of God Amen. I Richard Jones of the parish of Goytrey in the County of Monmouth farmer being of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding – do this twenty eighth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand and eight hundred and forty two, make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say:

I give devise and bequeath unto my son William Jones now living at Pontymoile in the parish of Panteague in the county of Monmouth wood ward, and David Thomas of the parish of Lanvihangel Pontymoile in the county of Monmouth aforesaid, tiler- their heirs executors and administrators and assigns upon trust that they, the said William Jones and David Thomas their heirs executors administrators or assigns do and shall as soon as conveniently may be, after my decease sell and dispose by public auction or by private contract as they think proper – all my live and dead stock in and out. Also all my household furniture, goods, chattles, monies and securities for money and effects of what nature or kind soever or to which I may happen to die seized possessed or in any wise entitles unto the hands of my Trustees aforesaid.

I give and bequeath unto my dear wife Mary Jones of the parish of Goytrey in the county of Monmouth aforesaid the sum of five shillings per week, if the interest of the money arising from the sale will be enough to do so for her own use and benefit during her natural life – after discharging all my just debt and funeral expenses.

The remainder [if any] received from the sale to be placed out on interest upon good security. And after her decease I give and bequeath the same with the remainder and residue [if any] unto all my children to be divided in equal shares namely William Jones Pontymoile aforesaid and Thomas Jones of the parish of Trevethin in the county of Monmouth , Walter Jones of Goytrey aforesaid and Ann Jones now Jenkins, Mary Jones now Mary Jenkins and Sarah Jones , all to be divided between them in equal shares and portions.

Also I give and bequeath unto my son William Jones of Pontymoile aforesaid my freehold messuage or dwelling house and garden with all the appurtenances thereto belonging situate lying and being on the mountain in the parish of Lanhilleth in the county of Monmouth, now in the occupation of Widow Morgan for ever.

My will further is that if my wife Mary Jones aforesaid wishes to keep any of the household furniture for her own use [she may] with the consent of the Trustees – and after her decease I give and bequeath the same goods unto Sarah Jones my daughter.

I nominate, constitute and appoint the said William Jones and David Thomas sole executors of this my last will.

Lastly I hereby revoke all and every former will and wills by me at any time heretofore made and do declare this only to be my last will and testament.

Know all me by these presents that we   Thomas James     of the parish of Goytrey     in the County of Monmouth farmer and William Phillips of the Town of Usk in the said County farmer         are held and firmly bound unto the Right Reverend Father in God   Alfred   by divine permission Lord Bishop of Llandaff       in the sum of   Eighty       pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain to be paid unto the said Lord Bishop or to his certain attorney his executors administrators or assigns to which payment well and truly to be made. We oblige ourselves and each of us by himself for the whole our and each of our heirs executors and administrators firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals dated   twenty first   day of August in the fourteenth   year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lady Victoria         by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland   Queen       Defender of the Faith &c and in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty

The Condition of this obligation is such that if the above bounden Thomas James the widower       and administrator     of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the said     Sarah James late of the parish of Goytrey aforesaid     deceased do make or cause to be made a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased which have or shall come to the hands possession or knowledge of   him   the said   Thomas James     or into the hands and possession of any other person or persons for him   and the same so made do exhibit or cause to be exhibited in the Registry of the Consistory Court of Llandaff     on or before the last day of February         next ensuing and the same goods chattels and credits and all other the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased do well and faithfully administer according to law, that is to say, do pay the debts of the said deceased which she   did owe at her     death and then the legacies contained and specified in the said Will annexed to the said Letters of Administration so to be committed as far as   her       goods chattels and credits will thereto extend and the law charge     and further do make or cause to be made a true and just accompt of   his   said administration when he     shall be thereunto lawfully required. And all the rest and reside of the said goods chattels and credits which shall be found remaining upon the said administrat accompt and not otherwise disposed of in the said Will the same being first examined and allowed of by the Judge or Judges of the said Court for the time being shall distribute and pay in such manner and form as shall be limited by the direction of the said Judge. And lastly do at all times hereafter clearly acquit discharge and save harmless the within named Lord Bishop the said Judge and all other officers of the said Court against all persons having or pretending to have any right title or interest in the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased then this obligation to be void or else to remain in full force and virtue.     Thomas James; William Phillips

Know all men by these presents that we Charles Elias Bird of the parish of Goytre in the county of Monmouth esquire and the Reverend William Evans of Usk in the county of Monmouth Clerk are held and firmly bound unto the right Reverend father in God Edward by divine permission Lord Bishop of Llandaff in the sum of Forty Pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain to be paid unto the said Lord Bishop or to his certain Attorney his executors administrators or assigns to which payment well and truly to be made. We oblige ourselves and each of us by himself for the whole our and each of our heirs, executors and administrators firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals, dated the twenty seventh day of October in the seventh year of the reign if our sovereign Lady Victoria by the grace of God of the united Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland , Queen, defender of the faith and in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and forty three.

The condition of this obligation is such that if the above bounden Elias Bird the lawful son one of the next of kin and administrator of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of Elizabeth Bird late of the parish of Goytrey in the county of Monmouth, widow deceased. Do make or cause to be made a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods, chattels and credits of the said deceased which have or shall come into the hands possession or knowledge of him the said Elias Bird or into the hands or possession of any other person or persons for him and the same so made exhibit or cause to be exhibited into the Registry of the Consistory court of Landaff at or before the last day of April next ensuing and the same goods, chattels and credits of the said deceased at the time of her death which at any time after shall come to the hands, possession of the said Elias Bird or into the hands and possession of any other person or persons of him do well and truly administer according to law And further do make or cause to be made a true and just account of the said administration at or before the last day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty four. And all the rest and residue of the said goods, chattels and credits which shall be found remaining upon the said administrators account the same being first examined and allowed of by the judge or judges for the time being of the said court shall deliver and pay unto such persons respectively by he said judge or judges by his or their decree or sentence pursuant to the true intent and meaning of a late act of parliament in the two and twentieth and three and twentieth years of the reign of our late sovereign Lord King Charles the second instituted an act for the better settling intestate estates shall limit and appoint and if it shall hereafter appear that any last will and testament was made by the said deceased and the executors therin named do exhibit the same into the said court making request to have it allowed and approved accordingly if the said Elias Bird above bounden being thereunto lawfully required do render and deliver the said letters of administrations approbation of such testament being first had and made in the said court then this obligation to be void or else to remain in full force and virtue.

I John Watkins of Ty Hir in the parish of Goytrey in the County of Monmouth farmer, being weak in body but of a sound understanding mind and memory do ordain this my last will and testament on the seventeenth day of February one thousand eight hundred and forty six in the manner and form following:

First I give and bequeath unto Anne my dear wife the Ty Hir farm leasehold property from the Earl of Abergavenny in the said parish of Goytrey during her natural life and to dispose of it after her decease to whom she like.

Second I give and bequeath to my said wife all the household furniture goods and chattels, cattle and all my implements of husbandry and all the money I shall be possessed of at my decease.

And I revoke my former wills and testaments and I ordain this my last will.
