John Moses Goytrey – proved 11th August

In the name of God Amen

I John Moses of the parish of Goytre in the County of Monmouth and Diocese of Landaff farmer being in perfect health and of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner following. First and principally I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God hoping for the remission of all my sins thro’ the alone merits of Jesus Christ my Lord and Saviour and my body I commit to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executors herein after mentioned, as to what worldly goods and estate God of his infinite mercy and goodness has been pleased to bestow upon me I give dispose and bequeath the same immediately from and after my decease in manner following.

First I give and bequeath unto my beloved son John Moses of the parish of Lanvihangel juxta Pontymoil farmer the sum of ten pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid him at the expiration of twelve calendar months after my decease.

I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Mary David wife of William David of the parish of Goytre farmer the sum of twenty pounds to be paid her at the expiration of twelve calendar months next after my decease.

Also I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Mary Moses and my son William Moses all and singular my ready money, monies lying out at interest and due to me by Bonds notes or otherwise, stock of horses cattle sheep pigs household furniture implements of husbandry and other my personal estate and effects whatsoever and of what kind soever and wheresoever situate lying and being (subject to the payment of my just debts & funeral expences) to them both share and share like to have and to hold the same during their joint lives and from and imediately after the death of either of them I give and bequeath the same to the survivor of them to have and to hold the same for ever.

I also nominate and appoint that it my said wife Mary Moses should wish to live seperate from my said son William Moses that the sum of ten pounds be paid her yearly after such separation by my said son William Moses during her natural life.

And lastly I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said wife Mary Moses and my said son William Moses joint and sole executors of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former Wills by me at any time heretofore made and declaring this only to be my last Will & Testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty ninth day of April one thousand eight hundred and fourteen.

Signed sealed published and declared by the said John Moses the testator as and for his last Will and Testament in our presence who in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses hereto. Griffith Jones, Clk; Aaron Harris

11th October 1814. Mary Moses the relict and William Moses the son both of the parish of Goytre in the County of Monmouth the joint executors named in this Will were sworn to the truth thereof & to the faithful performance of the same and that the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased do not amount in value to the sum of three hundred pounds before me Chas Powell, AM, Surrogate

Proved at Abergavenny on the 11th day of Oct 1814 on the oaths of Mary Moses wd the relict and William Moses the son and exon
