Gwyllim Jenkin Goytrey 1719

In the name of God Amen. I Gwyllim Jenkin of ye pish of Goytrey in ye County of Monmouth and diocese of Landaf, labourer, being in tolerable health of body and of sound and perfect mind and memory, praised be therefore to Almighty God, doe make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following, (that is to say:)

First and principally I commend my Soule into ye hands of Almighty God my maker and hopeing through ye merritts death and passion of my saviour Jesus Xt to have full and free pardon and forgiveness for all my sins and to inheritt everlasting life and my body I committ to ye earth to be decently interred att ye discretion of my executor herein after named.

And as for touching ye disposition of all my temporal estate as it hath pleased Almighty God to bestow upon me I give and dispose thereof as follows.

First and principally my will is yt all my debts and funerall charges be paid wth all convenience after my decease.

I give and bequeath to Anne my well beloved wife all my freehold estate together wth ye houses, orchards, outhouses and conveniences thereunto belonging in as large and ample a manner as I pr’sent enjoy ye same for and dureing her naturall life.

And after her decease I give, devise and bequeath ye sd freehold estate wth its appurtenances unto my beloved son William (wch estate lieth in ye pish of Goytrey now in my possession) for and in consideration yt my said son William shall pay his brother Thomas, my second son, ye sume of twelve pownds of good and lawfull money of Great Brittain at three severall payments after ye decease of my beloved wife wn he enjoys ye same that is to say, the sume of four pownds at ye expiration of one year after ye sd possession and so to continue ye payment of four pownds more ye ensuring year and likewise ye third year ye aforesd payment of four pownds to my sd son Thomas or assigns.

And further my will is yt if my son William refuses to pay to his brother Thomas ye sd sume of twelve pounds as before recited at ye times and days of payment, yt yn it may be lawfull for my son Thomas to enjoy and keep ye sd freehold estate for and dureing ye term of three years before expressed towards payment and consideration of ye sd twelve pounds.

Item: I give and bequeath all my personal estate, household stuff, corn and moveables of wt kind soever with all my corn grain and hay growing or in ye barns wth ye implements of husbandry to Anne my beloved wife, for and dureing her natural life. After her decease I give and bequeath to my beloved son William ye great table wth ye forms belonging to it and ye bench by ye garden window and likewise ye shelves yt hold ye pewter wth two lest? Barrells and also ye table in ye chamber where I lye usually holds ye milk, wth one bedsteed yt is in ye chamber.

I also give to my sd son William one shilling to be pd him in one months time after ye decease of my sd wife by my executors herinafter named.

Item: I give and bequeath to my granddaughter Anne ye daughter of my sd son William ye chest yt is in ye chamber.

Item: I give and bequeath to my sd son Thomas all ye remainder of my personal estate, household stuff and stock wth all ye moveables of wt kind soever yt is not before bequeathed after ye decease of my sd wife.

And lastly I do nominate and ordain my sd son Thomas to be sole executor of this my last will and testament and doe hereby revoke and make void all former wills by me heretofore made.

In witness hereof I ye sd Gwyllim Jenkin have this my last will and testament sett my hand and seal; this one and twentieth day of September in ye year of our Ld God 1716.
