Thomas Jenkins – Goytre

In the name of God Amen. The fourteenth day of August One thousand seven hundered and seventy eight. I Thomas Jenkin of the parish of Goytre in the comnty of Monouth. yeoman being sick in body but of good and perfect memory, thank be to Almighty God, and calling to rememberance the uncertain estate of this transitory life and that all flesh must yield to death, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following. First of all I recommend my soul to God who gave it and my body to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executrix hereafter named and as for my temporal estate, goods, cattle and chattles as God was pleased to bestow upon me, I give and dispose in manner following. I give and bequeath unto Thomas Jenkin the son of my brother William Jenkin the house whom where I now dwell the gardens, orchard, outhouses and all the? belonging after the decease of my wife. I also order and bequeath that the said Thomas Jenkin my nephew shall pay forty shillings unto Elizabeth the daughter of my dear brother Jenkin Rosser within twelve months time next after his being in possession of the premises and in case the said Thomas shall neglect or refuse to pay the said forty shillings my will and meaning is that the said premises shall discharge the same. Item I give and bequeath unto Mary my dearly beloved wife whom I also constitute and appoint my sole executrix of this my last will and testament all my goods, cattle, chattles during the time t she lives on my name and if she will alter her condition my will and meaning is that she is to have but ten pownds and at that time the rest of all my effects to be equally divided between my brother Jenkin, William and James or either of reversion; And I do firmly declare this to be my last will and testament revoking and disanulling all others As witnesseth my hand and seal the date above written signed sealed pronounced and declared in the presence of

Rachel Morgan – Goytrey

The condition of this obligation is such that if Margaret Bennett, wife of Richard Bennett, the cousin germain and next of kin of Rachell Morgan late of the parish of Goitre in the county of Monmouth and diocese of Landaff widow, deceased, do make, or cause to be made a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods, chattels and credits of the said deceased which have, or shall come into the hands, possession or knowledge of the said Margaret Bennett.

23rd April 1776

The above named Margaret Bennett was sworn well and faithfully to administer &c to exhibit an inventory &c and to render an account &c before me Wm. Jenkins surrogate.

In the name of God Amen. I Margaret Harris otherwise Margaret Anne, being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory, thank be to God for the same, do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following (that is to say):

 

I give and devise and bequeath the house and croft now in my possession by virtue of a devise to me granted by William Cadogan which he held by lease from John Hanbury Esq., unto John Harris, otherwise John Anne my brother and to his executors and assigns for and during the time and term therin mentioned and also all my goods, household stuff, money, chattles and al my property whatsoever and wheresoever the same is, or hereafter shall be found unto the said John Harris, otherwise John Anne whom I do hereby nominate and appoint sole executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made.

Charles Lewis 16th April 1771

In the name of God Amen I Charles Lewis of the parish of Goytre in the County of Monmouth and Diocess of Landaff yeo being this twenty fift day of February one thousand seven hundred and seventy one, sick in body but of sound mind and memory and understanding praised be God for the same, do make and ordain this my last will and Testament in manner following. That is to say. I commend my soul to Allmighty God who gave it me hopeing to be eternally saved in and throught the meritts of Jesus Christ our redeemer and as for my body I commend it to be buried in a Christian like manner, decently at the discression of my executors hereafter named. And as for my worldly estate I give and dispose as followeth.

First I give and bequeath to my youngest son William Lewis those two lease holds in the hamlet of Glascoed and Manor of Usk in the County of Monmouth, wch lands and premises are now rented by me to one Herbert Jenkins, to the said Wm Lewis his heirs executors or assigns dureing the tearm of the leases.

Also I give and bequeath to my four daughters, Mary Lewis, Margaret Lewis, Amy Lewis & Elizabeth Lewis to each of them the sum of thirty pounds to be paid them and every of them at the year’s end after my discease

All the rest of my real and personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever I do give to my wife Mary Lewis and my eldest son John Lewis whome I do nominate joyntly my executrix and executor to this my last will and Testament and I do disanul and make void all former wills by me made whatsoever. April 16th 1771. Mary Lewis widow the relict one of the executors in this Will named was sworn well and faithfully to execute the same to exhibit an inventory &c and to render an acct &c (power being first reserved &c) before me Nath’l Wells, Surrogate

This Will was proved at Abergavenny on the sixteenth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy one before the Reverend Nathaniel Wells, Clerk, Master of Arts, the Chancellor’s Surrogate by Mary Lewis widow the relict one of the executors in this Will named who was first on the holy Evangelists personally sworn well and faithfully to execute the same, to exhibit an inventory &c and to render a just account of her administration thereof when thereunto lawfully required (power being first reserved to John Lewis the other executor in this Will named when he applys for the same)

John Morgan ~ Goytre

In the Name of God Amen, I John Morgan of the parish of Goytrey in the county of Monmouth and diocese of Landaff, being sick and weak in body but of sound mind and memory, thanks be to Almighty God for the same, do therefore make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following:

First I give and bequeath to my sister Rachel Gunter the sum of one pound sterling to be paid within one year of after my decease.

I give and bequeath also my nephew John Gunter the sum of one pound to be paid within one year after my decease.

Item: I give and bequeath to my brother Charles Morgan the sum of five pounds in case he will save and indemnify my wife from all expenses towards and arising from a sum of money which I am bound for to the Rev’d Mr Rogers.

Item: I give and bequeath to my nephew Walter Prosser the sum of two pounds and ten shillings to be paid him within one year after my decease.

Item: I give and bequeath to my nephew Thomas Prosser the lease of the house in which I now dwell and its appurtenances after my wife’s death, provided his behaviour is obliging towards her in the mean time, otherwise only the sum of two pounds and ten shillings after her decease.

And lastly, as to the rest, residue and remainder of my personal estate, goods, chattels of what kind and nature soever, I give and bequeath to my said beloved wife Rachel Morgan, whom I hereby appoint executrix of this my last will and testament, herby revoking all former wills by me made.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this seventeenth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy five.
