In the name of God Amen the fowrth daie of August in the yere of o’ Lord God (accordinge to the comptacon of the Church of England) one thowsand sixe hundreth and seaventeene. I John Harry (called John the sonne of Mary Geathin) of the pishe of Coitre wthin the Countie of Monmoth and Diocs of Landaff beinge sicke in bodie but of good and pfect memorie (laude and praise be given unto Allmightie God) therefore do make and ordaine this my p.. Testament comprehendinge my last will in maner and forme followinge (That is to saie) first and principallie I comend my soule unto Allmightie God my Creat’r and unto Jesus Christ my Redeamer through whose meritts bitter death and passion I hope to be saved and to have forgivenes of all my synnes and my bodie to be buried in Christian buriall. Item I doe gieve and bequeath towards the Cathedrall Church of Landaff vid. Item I doe gieve and bequeath towards the pishe church of Coitre for my tieths forgotten or unpaid vid. Item I doe gieve graunt and devise unto Caterine my wief all that messuadge or tenem’t and water griest mill one killhowse one garden and one courtiledge to the said messuadge and water griest mill belonginge or appteyninge wth all waters water courses pondes weares scrankes? sluces and floudgates to the said water griest mill belonginge and also those three closes or pcells of arrable land and pasture comonlie called by the sev’all names of Cae y dyn?, Caher ton yllem?; and Gwerne y pownd wth thappnetnces to the said messuadge or tenem’t akewise belonginge or appteyninge or wth the same usuallie … situate beinge and lieinge together in the pishe of Coitre in the Countie of Monmoth aforesaid betweene the way leadinge from Kemys bridge towards Bergevenny the lands of Morgan ap Jevan and the lands of William Carpenter and Johan his wiefe called Ca kyd and Ca therwen one all ptes and sides thereof the reversion of all wch said messuadge or tenem’t water griest mill lands and other the premisses herein before devised wth thapptenances … when hit shall happen ymediatlie after the deceasse of the said Johan Carpenter belonginge and appleyainge to me and to my heires expectant by force and vertue of the last will and Testament of Harry Cadogan deceassed (reputed father of me the said John) to have and to holde the said messuadge or tenem’t water griest mill kill howse garden courtiledge waters water courses lands and other the premisses before devised (and the reversion thereof when hit shall happen ymediatlie after the decesse of the said Johan Carpenter) by the said Caterine her heires and assignes forever. And my further will and mynd is that the said messuadge or tenem’t water griest mill lands and other the p’misses before devised shalbe sould by the said Caterine towards the p’forminge of this my last will and Testamt. Item I doe gieve and bequeath to Morgan Thomas and Jaen vergh Thomas all my howsehold stuffe and ymplem’ts of howse after the decesse of my said wief. Item I doe gieve and bequeath to the said Caterine my wief all my corne uppon the grownd and in my howse together wth all and singular my goods cattle and chattels moveable and unmoveable herein unbequeathed. Item I do gieve and bequeath unto James sonne of Elizabeth my reputed sonne the some of twentie powndes of current Englishe money to be paid by the said Caterine my wiefe (of the sale of the said messuadge water griest mill lands and other the p’misses before devised) in maner and forme followinge (That is to saie) ten powndes of current Englishe money apeece of the said twentie powndes) wthin twelve monthes next after the deasse of the said Johan Carpenter and ten pownds of like current money ( residue of the said twentie powndes wthin two yeres next after the decesse of the said Johan. Item I doe nominate ordaine and appointe the said Caterine my wief to be sole executrix of this my last will and testam’t. And do nominate and appointe Morgan Phillipp Morgan of Mamhilad and Richard Morgan of Coitre to be overseers thereof. In wittnes whereof I have hereunto putt my seale hoven? the daie moneth and yere above written.
