In ye name of God Amen the eighteenth day of May in ye yeare of our Lord one thousand seaven hundred & sixteen and in ye second yeare of ye Reigne of our Sov’eigne Lord George by ye grace of God of Great Brittaine France & Ireland King defender of ye faith. I John James of ye pish of Goytre in ye County of Monmouth within ye Diocess of Landaffe labourer being sick in body but of good and perfect memory thanks be to almighty God doe make & ordaine this my last Will & Testament in maner & forme following (viz) First & principally I doe give my soul to Almighty God who gave it mee & my body to be decently buried in Christian burial. I doe give & bequeath towards ye repairing & upholdin of ye Cathedrall Church of Landaff one penny.

Imprimis I doe give & bequeath to my sone John James one wooden chaire yt is now in his possession & after my decease all my wearing apparell.

Ite I doe give & bequeath to my daughter Mary James one coubert & two peater dishes & one chaire

Ite I doe give & bequeath to my daughter Luie one table board & two benches belonging to it & two iron pots & stall for vessels & one bedsteed & one coffer

Ite I doe give & bequeath to Barbra my now beloved wife all bills bonds bargains houshould stuff & all other implem’ts whatsoev’r forev’r

Ite I doe make & ordaine Barbra my now beloved wife my whole & sole exect’r of this my last will & testam’t & I doe hereby utterly disallow revoke & annull all other former wills & Testamts whatsoev’r.

On the document cover: – 4th May 1731. Barbara here that ye effects of ye deceased came not to 40 (pounds/shillings??. DW)
