Noverint universi per presents nos   Catherine Griffiths     pochi de Goytre     in Comitatu   Monmouth spinster & Tho Davies of the town of Abergavenny yeoman?     bone et Legalis monete Anglie solvendis eidem       aut certo attornato executorbus administrators vel assign suis ad quam quidem solutionem bene et fideliter faciendam obligamus nos et utrumque nostrum per se pro toto et in solidum heredes, executors et administrators nostros firmiter per presents per presentes sigillis nostris sigillatas Date 27 May 1704

The condition of this obligation is such that if ye above bounden  Catherine Griffith ye sister and ad’stratrix of all and singular ye goods chells and credits of  James Griffith     late of ye pish of     Goytre     in ye County of     Monmouth  deceased doe make or cause to be made a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods chattells and credits of the said deceased which have or shall come to the hands possession or knowledge of her       the said    Catherine Griffith or into the hands and possession of any person or persons for her and the same soe made doe exhibit or cause to be exhibited into the Registry of the Consistory Court of   Landaffe at or before the last day of   August       next ensuing. And the same goods chattells and credits and all other the goods chattells & credits of the said deceased at the time of his     death which at any time after shall come to the hands or possession of the said    Catherine Griffith or into the hands & possession of any other person or persons for her doe well and truely administer according to law or further doe make or cause to be made a true and just accompt of sd ad’con at or before the last day of   May 1705  and all the rest and residue of the said goods chattells and credits wch shall be found remaining upon the said administrators accompt the same being first examined and allowed by the Judge or Judges for the time being of the said Court shall deliver unto such person or persons respectively as the said Judge or Judges by his or their decree or sentence pursuant to the true intent and meaning of a late Act of Parliament made in the two and twentieth and three and twentieth years of ye reigne of our late Soveraigne Lord King Charles the second intitled an Act for ye better settling of intestates estates, shall limitt and appoint. and if it shall hereafter appeare that any last will and Testament was made by the said deceased and the executor or executors therein named doe exhibit the same into the said Court making request to have it allowed and approved accordingly if the said    Catherine Griffith         above bounden being thereunto required doe render and deliver the sd Letters of Administration (approbation of such testament being first had and made) in the said Court then this obligation to be void and of none effect or else to remaine in full force and vertue. In the name of God I James James of the parish of Goytre in the County of Monmouth yeoman being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory, blessed be almighty God for the same, do make and publish this my last Will and testament in manner and form following (that is to say) First I give & bequeath (after my just debts and funeral expences are fully paid and satisfied) unto my well beloved wife Mary James all and singular my household stuff and furniture forever to be disposed of by her as she may think fit after her decease. As to all the rest residue and remainder of my personal estate goods and chattels of what kind or nature soever that I may die possessed of or any way entitled to I give and bequeath the use of the whole to my said well beloved wife Mary for and during the term of her natural life and from and immediately after her decease I give and bequeath a moiety or one half part of the same (according to an inventory made of the same within three kalendar months of my decease) to my beloved son and daughter Edward and Elizabeth to be equally divided share & share alike between them. And as to the other moiety or other half part of the same I leave that, as well as the household furniture above mentioned, entirely at the disposal of my said well beloved wife Mary. I do hereby appoint my said wife Mary, my said son Edward and John Moses now or late of the said parish of Goytre farmer to be joint executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former Wills & Testaments by me heretofore made. This Will was proved at Abergavenny on the ninth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty seven before the Reverend Benjamin Hall, Clerk, BD, the Chancellor’s Surrogate by Mary James widow the relict, Edward James the son and John Moses the executors in the within Will named who were first on the holy Evangelists personally sworn well and faithfully to execute the same, to exhibit an inventory and to render a just account of their administration thereof when thereunto lawfully required

Hugh Williams, Clerk, Master of Arts, Vicar General and Official Principal of the Right Reverend Father in God Alfred by Divine Permission Lord Bishop of Llandaff lawfully constituted. To our beloved in Christ the Reverend Thomas Davies and Christopher Cook, Clerks respectively residing in the County of Monmouth and Diocese of Llandaff jointly and severally. Greeting. Whereas James Prosser late of the parish of Goitrey in the said County and Diocese farmer deceased did duly make and execute his last Will and Testament in writing hereunto annexed and therein named his brothers Thomas Prosser and Richard Prosser joint executors and afterwards died, we do therefore empower you to swear the said Thomas Prosser and Richard Prosser as well to the truth of the said Will as to the faithful performance thereof and to make a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased and to render a just and true account thereof and to exhibit the same into the Registry of the Consistory Court of Llandaff. The form of the oath to the said Richard Prosser laying his right hand on the Bible or New Testament “Your oath is that the above named James Prosser died on or about the tenth day of January one thousand eight hundred and fifty one and that the paper writing hereunto annexed contains his last Will and Testament as far as you know or believe that you and your brother Thomas Prosser are the joint executors therein named that you will well and faithfully execute the same by paying first his debts and then the legacies therein contained as far as his goods chattels and credits will thereto extend and the law charge you and that you will make a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the said goods chattels and credits and exhibit the same into the Registry of the Consistory Court of Llandaff at the time assigned you by the said Court and render a just and true account thereof when lawfully required that the estate and effects of the said deceased are under the value of one hundred pounds pounds [sic] and that the contents of the affidavit hereunto annexed to which you have subscribed your mark were and are true “So help you God”

I Gwenllian John alias Griffeth of ye pish of Goytre in the Countie of Monmoth and Diocess of Landaph widowe being sicke in body but of good and pfect memorie (praised be God for it) doe make & ordaine this my last will & testamt in maner & forme followinge (that is to say).

First before all other things I doe bequeath my soule unto the hands of the Almightie whose bountie gave it me & in sure hope of a gloriouse resurrection through ye merittes and passion of Jesus Christ my onely saviour & redeemer.

I doe comend my fraile bodie to ye earth fro’ whence it came to bee interred in Xpt’an buriall in ye pish church of Goytre aforesaid.

Ite I give & bequeath one iron pott, one great candlesticke of brasse, one standing bed & one boorde cubbord to my sone in lawe John Morgan William.

It I give & bequeath one great brassen cauldron & one dripping pan to Thomas David my sone in lawe.

It I give & bequeath all my corne of what graine soen yt is in my barne or else where unto my sonne Edmond Griffith.

Ite I give one brassen pan, one iron pott, one cauldron, foure pewter platters one candlesticke of pewter, one brassen candlesticke, one witch, one coffer, one bed steed, one cubbord, one table with ye ioynt stooles there to belonging, two stands, one new barrell, one deske, one feather bed with its ptences, two flocke beds, one standing bed, two standing pewter cupps, one gray mare, two colts, one salt seller, one pigg, two hens, four strawe vessells, two sackes, two andiorns, one spitt, one truckle, one chafing dish, one chaire, one hedge bill, one hecker, one mattogge, one tubb of butter, all my bacon, one frieing pan, one grediron, all my garden beanes, one axe, all my hay in my barne or else wheare, one spade to Edmond Griffeth my sone.

Ite I give & bequeath all the residue of all my houshould stuff & goods as well in my house as beeing & abideing about & wth out the house in out houses or barne heareby not formerly given & bequeathed to my sone Richard Griffeth.

Ite I give & bequeath ye sume of five poundes due by one bonde or spetiallty of ye penaltie of forty pounds for ye payment of twenty pounds from Richard Griffeth ye first yeare after my decease unto John Morgan William my sone in law the husband of ye said Blanch my daughter.

Ite I give the other tenne pounds (that is to say) five pounds wthin ye second yeare & the five pounds wthin ye third yeare after my decease unto my said son Edmond Griffeth.

Ite I give & bequeath the other last five pounds to bee paid wthin ye fourth yeare after ye decease of mee the said Gwenllian John menconed in ye saide bonde or specialty bearing date ye eight day of November Ano Dni 1649 as by ye said bonde more att large appeareth, to bee equally divided betweene ye children of William Griffeth my sone and ye children of Thomas David my sone in law.

I doe constitute, nominat, ordaine and appoint my well beloved sone Edmond Griffeth afore said to bee sole executor of this my last will & testamt, revokeing and recalling all former wills legacies and bequeathes whatsoever.

In the Name of God Amen. I Francis Morgan senior, of the parish of Goytrey in the county of Monmouth, carpenter, do make this my last will and testament in manner following:

Viz: I give and devise unto my son Francis Morgan for the term of his natural life all that messuage or tenement known by the name of Penpellenni house, with the gardens, orchards and appurtenances thereto belonging and also all those several pieces of leasehold lands which I hold by lease under the Earl of Abergavenny situate in the parish of Goytrey in the county of Monmouth.

And after the decease of my son Francis Morgan, I give, devise and bequeath all the said messuage, tenement with all its appurtenances unto my grandson Francis Morgan and to his heirs and assigns.

I also give, devise and bequeath unto my son Francis Morgan and Ann his wife during the term of their lives and the life of the survivor of them all that freehold messuage or tenement with all the gardens, orchards and appurtenances thereto belonging, known by the name of Y Fee Bach and which I now occupy and hold in my own possession.

And after the decease of Francis my son and Ann his wife, and the survivor of them, I give, devise and bequeath all the said last mentioned messuage or tenement called Y Fee Bach with all its appurtenances unto my granddaughter Mary Morgan and her heirs of her body lawfully to be begotten.

And for the want of such heirs and the decease of the said Mary Morgan I give, devise and bequeath all the said messuages called Y Fee Bach unto my grandson Francis Morgan and to his heirs forever.

All the rest and residue of my estate, goods, chattels whatsoever and wheresoever I give, devise and bequeath unto my son Francis Morgan and to his executors administrators and assigns.

I also nominate, constitute and appoint Francis Morgan my son, sole executor of this my will and testament.

Know all me by these presents that we Richard Watkin of the parish of Goytrey   in the County of Monmouth cordwainer & John Rees of Landaffe in ye County of Glamorgan innkeeper   are held and firmly bound unto the Right Reverend Father in God John   by divine permission Lord Bishop of Landaff       in the sum of   twenty       pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain to be paid unto the said Lord Bishop or to his certain attorney his executors administrators or assigns to which payment well and truly to be made. We oblige ourselves and each of us by himself for the whole our and each of our heirs executors and administrators firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals dated 4th     day of March     year of our Lord 1741

The Condition of this obligation is such that if the above bounden Richard Watkin ye cozen German and administrator of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of Edward Morgan late of the parish of Goytrey in the County of Monmouth & Diocese of Landaffe, batchelor deceased, do make or cause to be made a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased which have or shall come to the hands possession or knowledge of him   the said   Richard Watkin    or into the hands and possession of any other person or persons for   and the same so made do exhibit or cause to be exhibited in the Registry of the Consistory Court of  on or before the last day of May  next ensuing and the same goods chattels and credits and all other the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased do well and faithfully administer according to law, that is to say, do pay the debts of the said deceased which  did owe at  death and then the legacies contained and specified in the said Will annexed to the said Letters of Administration so to be committed as far as   goods chattels and credits will thereto extend and the law charge     and further do make or cause to be made a true and just accompt of  said administration when shall be thereunto lawfully required. And all the rest and reside of the said goods chattels and credits which shall be found remaining upon the said administrat accompt and not otherwise disposed of in the said Will the same being first examined and allowed of by the Judge or Judges of the said Court for the time being shall distribute and pay in such manner and form as shall be limited by the direction of the said Judge. And lastly do at all times hereafter clearly acquit discharge and save harmless the within named Lord Bishop the said Judge and all other officers of the said Court against all persons having or pretending to have any right title or interest in the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased then this obligation to be void or else to remain in full force ant virtue. In the name of God Amen I Edward Mathews of the parish of Goytrey in the county of Monmouth (late labourer) being weak in body but of sound and disposing mind and memory do make and ordain this my last will and Testament in the following manner and form.

 First I give and bequeath to Barbara my wife the sum of one shilling to be paid to her by my executor after my decease.

Also I give to my trusty friend John Williams of the parish of Llanellen in the said county farmer (whom I likewise make and ordain the sole executor of this my last will and testament) all and singular my lands messuages and tenements situate in the parish of Lanover in the said county of Monmouth by him freely to be possessed and enjoyed and I do herby revoke and make void all former will or wills by me heretofore made ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.

In the Name of God Amen. I Charles Phillip of ye pish of Goytre in ye County of Monmouth & Diocese of Landaff, labourer, being infirm and weak in body but of sound and perfect memory (praise be given to Almighty God) do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following.

First I bequeath my soul to Almighty God my maker hoping through ye merit of death and passion of my saviour Jesus Xt to have full and perfect pardon of all my sins. I commit my body to ye earth to be decently buried and as for ye temporall estate it has pleased God to bestow upon me I, I give devise and bequeath ye same as followeth:

Imp’s I give, devise and bequeath to Catherine by beloved wife all ye leasehold land wth ye house and barn adjoyning in as long and ample manner to enjoy ye same, being part of ye waste of Pellenny Comon for and during her natural life.

And after her decease I devise and bequeath ye sd lease together with its appurtenances to Margaret my beloved daughter for and during her naturall life wch sd lease in ye pish of Goytre as now fully may appear upon ye lease.

And after ye death of ye said Margaret, I give, devise and bequeath ye sd lease to John my beloved son and after his decease to Rachell my beloved daughter for and during her naturall life, wch sd —- have their lives mentioned in ye sd lease.

Item. I give, devise and bequeath another lease hold yt is part of Pellenny Comon, wth ye leasehold land of Wm Prichard and ye household lands of Ann Mathews widdow, to Jane my beloved daughter for and during her naturall life.

And after her decease, I devise and bequeath yt sd lease to my beloved daughter Elizabeth, and after her decease to my beloved son John for and during his life wch ye sd lives have their lives exposed in ye sd lease.

Item: I give and bequeath to my son John ye sum of four pounds of lawfull Brittish money to be pd him upon two equal payments wthin 2 years by my sd daughter Margarett after she enjoys ye sd lease.

Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary ye sum of ten shillings and likewise to my granddaughter Elizabeth, ye daughter of James Wm. ye sum of ten shillings, wch sd sum of twenty shillings is to be pd to my daughter Jane at ye expiration of one year after she enjoys ye sd lease.

Lastly I do nominate and appoint my beloved daughter Margarett to be executor of this my last will and Testament, revoking all others by me made heretofore.
