In the name of God Amen the three & twentith day of Apprill in the fower & twentith yeare of the raigne of Charles the second by the grace of God of England Scotland France & Ireland King, defender of the faith &c & in the yeare of our Lord one thowsand six hundred & seaventye two [page damaged. DW] of the pish of Goytrey in the Countye of Monmoth & wthin the diocesse of Landaff yeoman being sicke in boddye but of good & pfecte memorye & remembrance thanks be two almightye God for the same doe hereby make & ordayne this my last will and testament in manner & forme following (vizt)

First I bequeath my soule unto God my maker & to Jesus Christ my redeemer & to the Holy Ghosts my sanctyfier hopeing to be saved by the merits merries death & passion of Jesus Christ & to enioy theverlasting kingdome pr’paired for the faithfull, as for my boddye I bequeath it unto the earth from whence it came there to remayne untill that great day of the resurection of the just & to be buried in Cristian buriall in the pish church of Goytrey.

As for the goods & psonall estate wch God hath lent? me? I give and bequeath them in manner & forme following.

Item I give & bequeath … the Cathedrall Church of Landaph twelve pence.

Item I give & bequeath unto William Morgan my sonn the some of fowerscore pownds wch remayneth in the hands of Joseph Hayles of Bergavenny to be payed the sayed William Morgan on demand after my decease.

Item I give & bequeath unto my said sonn William Morgan the some of twentye pownds ymeadiatelie after my decease.

Item I give & bequeath unto Elizabeth Thomas my maydservant one red hayfer being two yeares owld.

Item I give & bequeath unto Ann Richard my neece & God daughter one other red hayfer being three yeares owld,

Item I give and bequeath unto my welbeloved wife Blanch the some of twentye pownds togeather wth all my corne & graine threshed & unthreshed & growing, togeather wth all my cattle & psonall estate whatsoever being moveable & unmoveable, I give & bequeath them unto my sayed wife Blanch to have & to howld the foresayed goods & psonall … before bequeathed, during such tyme as shee doth live sole & unmarried, but it shall happen my foresaid wife shalbe intermarried wth any man my meaning is that soe much of the psonall estate that shalbe unexpended, being by me bequeathed, shalbe & remayne to the use of my sonn William Morgan excepting the twentye pownds wch I have? bequeathed to my foresaid wife Blanch wch is to remayne to her onlie use & to the use … other pson or psons whatsoever.

In the Name of God Amen, I John Morgan of the parish of Goytrey in the county of Monmouth and diocese of Landaff, being sick and weak in body but of sound mind and memory, thanks be to Almighty God for the same, do therefore make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following:

First I give and bequeath to my sister Rachel Gunter the sum of one pound sterling to be paid within one year of after my decease.

I give and bequeath also my nephew John Gunter the sum of one pound to be paid within one year after my decease.

Item: I give and bequeath to my brother Charles Morgan the sum of five pounds in case he will save and indemnify my wife from all expenses towards and arising from a sum of money which I am bound for to the Rev’d Mr Rogers.

Item: I give and bequeath to my nephew Walter Prosser the sum of two pounds and ten shillings to be paid him within one year after my decease.

Item: I give and bequeath to my nephew Thomas Prosser the lease of the house in which I now dwell and its appurtenances after my wife’s death, provided his behaviour is obliging towards her in the mean time, otherwise only the sum of two pounds and ten shillings after her decease.

And lastly, as to the rest, residue and remainder of my personal estate, goods, chattels of what kind and nature soever, I give and bequeath to my said beloved wife Rachel Morgan, whom I hereby appoint executrix of this my last will and testament, herby revoking all former wills by me made.

In the name of God Amen

I John Moses of the parish of Goytre in the County of Monmouth and Diocese of Landaff farmer being in perfect health and of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner following. First and principally I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God hoping for the remission of all my sins thro’ the alone merits of Jesus Christ my Lord and Saviour and my body I commit to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executors herein after mentioned, as to what worldly goods and estate God of his infinite mercy and goodness has been pleased to bestow upon me I give dispose and bequeath the same immediately from and after my decease in manner following.

First I give and bequeath unto my beloved son John Moses of the parish of Lanvihangel juxta Pontymoil farmer the sum of ten pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid him at the expiration of twelve calendar months after my decease.

I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Mary David wife of William David of the parish of Goytre farmer the sum of twenty pounds to be paid her at the expiration of twelve calendar months next after my decease.

Also I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Mary Moses and my son William Moses all and singular my ready money, monies lying out at interest and due to me by Bonds notes or otherwise, stock of horses cattle sheep pigs household furniture implements of husbandry and other my personal estate and effects whatsoever and of what kind soever and wheresoever situate lying and being (subject to the payment of my just debts & funeral expences) to them both share and share like to have and to hold the same during their joint lives and from and imediately after the death of either of them I give and bequeath the same to the survivor of them to have and to hold the same for ever.

I also nominate and appoint that it my said wife Mary Moses should wish to live seperate from my said son William Moses that the sum of ten pounds be paid her yearly after such separation by my said son William Moses during her natural life.

And lastly I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said wife Mary Moses and my said son William Moses joint and sole executors of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former Wills by me at any time heretofore made and declaring this only to be my last Will & Testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty ninth day of April one thousand eight hundred and fourteen.

In the name of God Amen I John Price now or late of the parish of Goytre in the County of Monmouth yeoman being weak in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory, blessed be almighty God for the same, do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and following (that is to say)

First I commend my precious and immortal soul into the hands of God who gave it, and my body to the earth to be buried with a decent Christian burial. As to what worldly goods the divine providence has favoured me with, I dispose of the same as followeth after my just debts and funeral expences are fully paid and satisfied, namely,

I give and bequeath unto my eldest daughter Rachel by my last wife the sum of ten pounds of good and lawful money of England to be paid her within one year after my decease.

I also give and bequeath unto my said daughter Rachel’s daughter Mary (being a base child) the sum of five pounds of like lawful money, to be paid her when she shall have attained the age of twenty one years.

I also give and bequeath unto my daughters Mary and Sarah by my said last wife the sum of fifteen pounds of like lawful money a piece, her legacy to be paid unto my said daughter Mary within three years after my decease, and unto my said daughter Sarah within six years after my decease.

I also give devise & bequeath unto my son-in-law David Jones, mason and my daughter Anne wife of the said David Jones and the longer liver of them all my freehold estate consisting in land of messuage tenement and lands with their appurtenances, commonly called and known by the name of “Tir David William Prosser”, situate in the hamlet of Glyn Vach in the parish of Llanigon and County of Brecon to hold to them my said son-in-law David Jones and my said daughter Anne for and during and unto the full end term of their natural lives and the life of the survivor or longest liver of them subject nevertheless to the payment of and afore mentioned legacies and on condition of their and the longest liver of them keeping the said premisses in good and sufficient tenantable repair and committing no waste nor cause nor suffer to be committed any waste or destruction thereupon.

And from and immediately after the decease of my said son-in-law and daughter David and Anne Jones and the decease of the survivor and longest liver of them I give devise and bequeath the same with all and every their appurtenances in as full and ample a manner as I now possess and enjoy the same unto my grand son John (being the son of my said son-in-law David Jones by my said daughter Anne) to hold to him my said grand son John Jones his heirs and assigns for ever.

And lastly as to all the rest residue and remainder of my personal estate goods and chattels of what kind or nature soever I give and bequeath the same unto my said son-in-law & daughter David and Anne Jones and the longest liver of them.

And I hereby appoint my said son-in-law David Jones to be sole executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former Wills by me made.

John Rosser –  Goytrey

This is the last will and testament of me, John Rosser of the parish of Goytre, in the county of Monmouth, miller, made this tenth day of August 1854.

I give, devise and bequeath unto my wife Ann Rosser all my real and personal estate of every description, to the intent that she may hold and enjoy the same respectively for and during the term of her natural life.

And I do hereby declare that my said wife shall keep the messuages in good and tenable repair and keep down the interest of all monies charged thereof, by way of mortgage and from immediately after the decease of my said wife, I give and dispose of my said real and personal estate in the manner following: That is to say;

I give and devise unto my daughter Elizabeth James, widow, my freehold house and premises at Trosnant near Pontypool in the county of Monmouth, now in the occupation of Thomas Gold. To hold the same unto and to the use of the said Elizabeth James, her heirs and assigns forever.

I give and devise unto my daughter Ann Phillips the dwellinghouse lately erected by the side of the road (Ty Ivor) between Abergavenny and Pontypool in the said parish of Goytre, with the strip of garden ground therewith being formerly part of a piece of land called Cae Coed, to hold the same unto and to the use of the said Ann Phillips her heirs and assigns forever, subject nevertheless to the payment of the sum of eighty pounds in part of a certain mortgage debt of eight hundred and eighty pounds now due and owing to Mr Woodhouse and from which sum of eighty pounds I exempt my personal estate and the remainder of my real estate.

I give and devise all the residue of my real estate (except a strip of land part of Cae Coed) which I am about to convey to my son in law John Phillips, unto the said John Phillips his executors and assigns for the term of five hundred years upon trust that he, the said John Phillips, his executors, administrators or assigns so shall and within twelve months after the decease of my said wife, by mortgage of the premises comprised in the said term of a competent part thereof for all or any part of the said term shall raise the full and clear sum of one hundred pounds and pay the same into the hands of my daughter Mary, now the wife of Edwin Cooper for her own absolute use and benefit, independent of her said husband. And I declare that the receipt of my said daughter alone notwithstanding her covertures shall be sufficient discharge of the same.

And I do hereby declare that when and as soon as the trusts herin before declared of the said term shall have been fully performed or satisfied or in case the sum to be raised by the means thereof shall be paid by the person or persons who shall be entitled to the hereditaments and premises therein comprised in remainder, expectant on the said term and costs, charges and expenses of the said John Phillips, his executors, administrators or assigns in or about the execution and performance of the trusts thereof shall have been fully paid and satisfied. Then and from thenceforth the said term of five hundred years or so much thereof shall remain undisposed of for the purpose aforesaid shall cease, determine or be utterly void to all intents and purposes whatsoever but without prejudice, nevertheless, to any mortgage or other disposition which shall or may have been previously made therof or any part therof, or of the premises therein composed for the same purpose and subject to the aforesaid trusts.

And I appoint my said wife and my two sons John and Aaron executrix and executors of this my will.

In witness thereof I have to this my last will and testament written on two sheets of paper, sett my hand and seal in maner and form following:

That is to say: My hand to the first sheet and my hand seal to the second and last sheet, therof the day and year first above written.

Know all me by these presents that we Anne Stephen of the parish of   Goytre in the County of   Monmouth spinster and William James of the same parish farmer are held and firmly bound unto the Right Reverend Father in God Jonathan   by divine permission Lord Bishop of Landaff       in the sum of   one hundred       pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain to be paid unto the said Lord Bishop or to his certain attorney his executors administrators or assigns to which payment well and truly to be made. We oblige ourselves and each of us by himself for the whole our and each of our heirs executors and administrators firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals dated     the 14th day of April 1769

The Condition of this obligation is such that if the above bounden Anne Stephen     the natural and lawfull sister and administratrix of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of John Stephen late of the parish of Goytre in the County of Monmouth and Diocese of Landaff           deceased do make or cause to be made a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased which have or shall come to the hands possession or knowledge of     the said   Anne Stephen     or into the hands and possession of any other person or persons for her and the same so made do exhibit or cause to be exhibited in the Registry of the Consistory Court of   Landaff   on or before the last day of July         next ensuing and the same goods chattels and credits and all other the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased do well and faithfully administer according to law, that is to say, do pay the debts of the said deceased which he   did owe at   his     death and then the legacies contained and specified in the said Will annexed to the said Letters of Administration so to be committed as far as   his       goods chattels and credits will thereto extend and the law charge     and further do make or cause to be made a true and just accompt of     said administration when   she     shall be thereunto lawfully required. And all the rest and reside of the said goods chattels and credits which shall be found remaining upon the said administrat accompt and not otherwise disposed of in the said Will the same being first examined and allowed of by the Judge or Judges of the said Court for the time being shall distribute and pay in such manner and form as shall be limited by the direction of the said Judge. And lastly do at all times hereafter clearly acquit discharge and save harmless the within named Lord Bishop the said Judge and all other officers of the said Court against all persons having or pretending to have any right title or interest in the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased then this obligation to be void or else to remain in full force ant virtue. I give and devise the aforesaid messuage or tenement barns, gardens and all the said lands lying in Goytre aforesaid unto John Thomas Watkin my nephew and to his heirs and assigns forever.

I do give the saidd Upper House before excepted together with barns, gardens and lands unto Johan Phe William my niece for and during her naturall life.

In the name of God Amen. I John Watkins of Ty Hir in the parish of Goytrey in the County of Monmouth farmer, being weak in body but of a sound understanding mind and memory do ordain this my last will and testament on the seventeenth day of February one thousand eight hundred and forty six in the manner and form following:

First I give and bequeath unto Anne my dear wife the Ty Hir farm leasehold property from the Earl of Abergavenny in the said parish of Goytrey during her natural life and to dispose of it after her decease to whom she like.

Second I give and bequeath to my said wife all the household furniture goods and chattels, cattle and all my implements of husbandry and all the money I shall be possessed of at my decease.

And I revoke my former wills and testaments and I ordain this my last will.

In witness whereof I have signed my name the day and year above written.

Know all me by these present that we Ann Watkins of the parish of Goitre in the county of Monmouth widow, John Phillips of the parish of Lanover in the said County and William Phillips of Lanover in the said County yeoman are held and firmly bound unto the Right Reverend Father in God.

The condition of this obligation is such that if the above bounden Ann Watkins widow, the relict and universal legatee named in the last Will and Testament of John Watkins late of the parish of Goitre in the County of Monmouth and diocese of Landaff, farmer deceased and administratrix with the will annex of all and singular the goods, chattels and credits of the said deceased to make, or cause to be made a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods, chattles and credits of the said deceased.

In the name of God Amen the thyrtenth daye of March in the yeare of our Lord God accordinge to the computacon of the Church of England 1671 I John Williams of the parish of Goytre in the County of Monmoth gent & wthin the diocesse of Ladaff sicke & weake in bodie, but of good & pfect remembrance (laude & prayse be to allmighty God) doe make and ordayne this my last will & Testament in writinge in maner & forme followinge, by these p’sents revoakinge all former testament & testaments will & wills by me heeretofore made by word or by writinge, and this onely to be taken for my last will & testament & non other. Fyrst beinge penitent for all my sins I comend my soule into the handes of allmighty God my maker & redeemer and I trust and beleeve through the mearitts of Jesus Christ my saviour to life againe at the gen’all daye of resurrection of the dead to inherit the Kingdome of Heaven p’pared for the elect in the world to come, and my bodie to be buryed in Christian buriall accordinge to the discretion of my executrix heereafter named.

Item I give towards the repacon of the Cathedrall Church of Landaffe vid. Item I give to the Rector of Goytre for my tith forgotten & unpayed .

Item I give devise & bequeath unto Jane my lovinge wife all my capitall messuage wherein I live wth all barnes buyldings gardens orchardes land or arrable meadow pasture & wooded groundes thereunto belonging & therewth used ocupied & enioyed in a large & ample maner as I doe now hould & enioy the same contayning by estymacone fower score & sixteene acres more or less lying and being wthin the pishes of Goytre & Mamhilad aforesaid in the said County together wth the moyety or one halfe of one water corne grist mill called Melyn Llys Morgan wth all ponds flauckes? floodgates & sluces thereunto belongings scittuatt lying & beinge wthin the pish of Mamhilad in the said Countye & one pcell of land called Kae yr Trow lying in Mamhilad afforesaid & all those five closes or pcells of land arrable medowe & pasture called Gwrlode yr Clearcke & Tonn blechie & one messuage wth the appurtences in the possession of my brother Walter Williams & one cottage wth thapputences in the possession of Thomas Williams all lying & beinge in Mamhilad afforesaid in the said County. Alsoe I give & devise unto ye said Jane my wife all my messuage & lands wth all theyre appurtenances called Coed y Constable lying & beinge in Goytre afforesaid in as lardge & ample maner as I doe now hould & enioy the same wth thappurtences to have & to hould all & singular the said sev’all messuages lands & tenements together wth the moytie of the said watter corne grist mill unto Jane Williams my said wife for & duringe the terme of her naturall life onely towards her joyncture & livlyhood in recompence of her mariage porcon wch I received wth her & towards the accomplish’t of my promise & agreement made & concluded between us before our mariage solempnised. And after the decease of Jane my said wife I give & devise the said capitall messuage wth all the lands arrable meadow & pasture thereunto belonging together wth the moytie of the said mill wth all & singular theyr appurtenances unto my brother Georg Williams & to the heyres of his bodie lawfully begotten or to be begotten, and for want of such yssue I give & devise the said capitall messuage wth all the said lands thereunto belonging wth thapprut’s together wth the said moytie of the said mill unto my brother David Williams and to the heyres of his bodie lawfully begotten or to be begotten, and in default of such yssue I give & devise the remaynder of the said capitall messuage landes & p’misses together wth the moytie of the said mill wth theyre appurtenances unto my brother Walter Williams & to the heyres of his bodie lawfully begotten or to be begotten, and for want of such yssue I give the remaynder of the said capitall messuage & the lands & p’misses thereunto belonging together wth the moytie of the said mill unto my brother Phillipp Williams & to the heyres of his bodie lawfully begotten or to be begotten. And in default of such yssue the remaynder of the said p’misses unto the right heyres of me the said John Williams forever. Item I give & devise the said pcell of lands called Kae yr tyrow after the decesse of Jane my said wife unto my said brother David Williams for & duringe the terme of his naturall life onely paying one penie of current money yearely duringe his life unto my said brother & heyre George Williams yf it be lawfully demanded. And after his deceasse I give & devise the said pcell of land called Kae yr triow unto my said brother George Williams & the heyres of his bodie lawfully begotten. Item I give devise & bequeath the said messuage wherein my brother Walter Williams liveth & three cloces or pcells of meadowe thereunto belonginge wth thappurtences after the decease of Jane my said wife unto my said brother Walter Williams for & duringe the terme of his naturall life onely paying one peny of curre money unto my said brother George Williams yf it be lawfully demanded. And after the decesse of my said brother Walter Williams I give & devise the remaynder of the said messuage & three pcells of meadow wth thappurtencs unto my said brother George Williams & to the hayres of his bodie lawfully begotten or to be begotten. Item I give devise & bequeath the moytie or one halfe of my said messuage & lands wth the appurtences after the decease of the said Jane my wife unto my said brother Phillipp Williams for & duringe the terme of his naturall life onely paying one peny of current money yearly unto my said brother George Williams yf yt be lawfully demanded. And after his decease I give & devise the remaynder of the said moytie of the said messuage & landes called Coed y Constable unto my said brother George Williams & the heyres of his bodie lawfully begotten or to be begotten forever. Item I give devise & bequeath the other moytie of the said pmisses called Coed y Constable after the decease of Jane my said wife unto my said brother George Williams & the heyres of his bodie lawfully begotten or to be begotten forever. Item I give & devise unto Thomas William after the decease of the said Jane my wife the said cottage wherein the said Thomas William liveth & two litle closes or pcells of landes thereunto adioyinge wth thappurtences called Tonn techy? unto the said Thomas William for & duringe the terme of his naturall life onely payinge therefore yearly unto my said brother George Williams one peny of current money yf it be lawfully demanded. And after his decease I give & devise the remaynder of the said cottage & two pcells of land called Tonn tochy? unto my said brother George Williams & to the heyres of his bodie lawfully begotten or to be begotten forever. Lastly I give & bequeath unto the said Jane my wife all my goodes cattle chattell corne and grayne whatsoever aswell in my house as in my barne unthreshed & all my corne growinge in fildes & all my houshould stuff & implements of howshould stuff whatsoever. And of this my last will & testament I doe nomynatt appoynt & ordayne the said Jane my lovinge wife to be sole executrix & I doe nominate & appoynt Francis Tyler & John Jones gent to be sup’visor of this my last will & Testament.
