This indenture made the fowerteenth day of September in the yeare of our Lord according to the computation of the Church of England one thousand six hundred ninety and two betweene the right hono’ble George Lord Abergavenny of the one part and Roger Richard of the parish of Goytre in the County of Monmouth yoeman of the other part. Witnesseth that the said George Lord Abergavenny for and in consideration of the sume of three pound ten shillings of lawfull English money unto him payd before the sealing of these p’sents and for divers other causes and consideration to him there unto …. hath demised graunted and to farme let and by these presents doth demise graunt and to farme let and set? unto the said Roger Richards all that cottage wherein one Alse Robert (mother of the said Roger) doth now inhabit together wth fower akres of land to the said cottage adjoyning all which premises are scituate lying and being in or upon a comon or wast of the said Lords called Pettenny wthin the said parish of Goytre bounded on the south west by a way leading from Abergavenny towards Usk and on the other parts by the lands of Hugh Harries gent and the said west to have and to hold all and singular the fore demised p’misses with thappurtenances unto the said Roger Richard his heyres and assigns for and dureinge the naturall lives of the said Roger Richards, …. his now wife & Blanch Prichard daughter of Wm Pric’d of Goytre and the longest liver of them three yeldinge and payinge therefore yearly unto the said George Lord Abergavenny his heyres and assignes the sume of two shillings of lawfull English money at two tymes or termes in the yeare (vizt) at every the feast of St Michael Tharkangel and thannunciation of our blessed Lady St Mary the Virgin by equall porcons and three shillings in the name of a herriot at the decease or chang of every tenant of the premises dureing the said terme and if it shall happen the said yearly rent of two shillings or three shillings in the name of a herriot to bee behind and unpayd for the space of fifteene dayes next any of the tymes whereon they ought to bee paid being lawfully demanded that ….. from thence forth this present demise to cease and determine any thing herein conteyned to the contrary notwithstanding and the said Roger Richard for himselfe his exors adm’rs & assignes doth heereby covenant to and with the said George Lord of Abergavenny his heyres and assignes that hee the said Roger Richard his exors adm’rs & assignes shall and will at his owne proper cost and charge well and sufficiently repayre the said cottage and alsoe well and sufficiently repayre and amend all the hedges fences & ditches in and around the fower acres of land heereby demised and the same being soe well & sufficiently repayed shall keepe in good and tenentable reparacons and at the end or sooner determination of this demise soe well repayed shall peaceably yeld up unto the said George Lord of Abergavenny his heyres or assignes and the said George Lord Abergavenny doth by these presents authorise and in his place put his well beloved freind Will’m Morgan of Goytre ………. his lawfull atturney for him and in his name to enter into the premises or any part thereof to give livery of seisin in the name of the whole unto the said Roger Richard. Roger Reynold – Goytre

In the name of God Amen. I Roger Reynold of the parish of Goytre, county of Monmouth and diocese of Landaff being sick in body but of sound and perfect memory and understanding do make and ordain this my last will and testament as follows:

First I bequeath my soul into the hands of God and my body to ye ground to be buried in a Christian burial at ye discretion of my executors hereinafter named and as for what wordly goods God was pleased to bestow upon me I give and bequeath in manner and form following:

First I bequeath unto my granddaughter Margarett Williams one field commonly called by ye name on Ton Glas, situate in the parish of Goytre afores’d containing by estimation two covers cont., more or less during the time of the lease, do herby now possess the same, she paying her share of the rent and likewise a share of the heriot as mentioned in ye afores’d lease. If the afores’d Margarett Williams should die without issue then I give and bequeath the afores’d field unto my daughter Mary Reynold during ye term of the afores’d lease, she paying of rent and heriot as it becomes due.

Also I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Reynold the house called Ty Glanynant with all its appurtenances and all that is mentioned in the lease belonging to it. Except Cae Ton Glas during the term of the lease whereby I now possess of same, she paying her share of rent and heriot mentioned in the afores’d lease. If the afore mentioned Mary Reynold sh’d happen to die without issue then I give the afores’d house and appurtenances to my daughters Martha Reynold and Elizabeth Reynold during the term of the afores’d lease, they or she paying rent and heriot as mentioned in the s’d lease.

Also I give and bequeath unto my son David Reynold the sum of two shillings of current Brittish money to be paid him by my executors at ye end of twelve months after my decease if demanded.

And lastly I give and bequeath unto my daughter Martha Reynold and Elizabeth Reynold whom I also nominate and appoint joint executors of this my last will and testament all that leasehold with all its appurtenances called by ye name Pen Cross Hopped situate in ye parish of Goytre afores’d to be jointly and freely possessed by them during ye term of the lease whereby I now possess and enjoy ye same.

And also I give and bequeath all my personal estate with all my household stuff to my daughter Martha Reynold and Elizabeth Reynold equally to be divided between them share and share alike, them their heirs and assigns forever and if either of my daughters Martha or Elizabeth sh’d happen to die without issue then I give and bequeath the lease and all it appurtenances unto ye longest lives of them both forever.

And I revoke and disanull all former wills and testaments by me made ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.

In witness hereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this fourth day of January 1757.

In the name of God, Amen, the eieth day of March 1678. I Roger Morgan of the parish of Goytre in the county of Monmouth yeoman sick and weak in body but of good and pfect memory ? praise be to Almighty God and calling to remembrance the ? ? of this transitory life and that all flesh might yeild unto death when it please God to call, do make, ordayne, constitute and declare this my last will and testement in manner and form following revoking and anulling by these ? All and will testament and testament will and wills hereto fore by me made and declared? by word or by writing, and this is to be taken? for my last will and testement and non other and being penitent sorry from the bottom of my hart for my sins past, most humbly beseeching forgivness for the same, I give and commit my soul unto Almighty God, my saviour and redeemer, in whom and by the merit of Jesus Christ, trust and behind assuredly to be saved, and, to gane full remission and forgiveness of all my sins, and that my soul with my body at the general day of resurrection? Rise again with joy and through the merit of Christs death and passing, to possess and inherit the? ? Buryd in? And place where it shall please my executrix hereafter named.

I do appoynt, and ? for the setling of my temporal ? Such goods and chattles as it hath pleased God (farr above my ? ) to bestow upon me. I do give and dispose the same in manner and form following that is to? I will that all ? debts and ? as ? right ?……..? whatsoever, hath ? after my decease by my executrix hereafter named: Item I give toward the reparation of the cathedral church of Landaff ?.

Item I give and bequeath two milch kyne to ? towards payment of my debts. Itme I give and bequeath unto my son Oliver Morgan one? One year next after my decease.

Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Morgan one? And? At her side within five months next after my decease.   Item, I give and bequeath unto my grand child Charles Morgan one ewe and lamb within five months next after my decease.

Item I give and bequeath unto my grandchild Jane one ewe and lamb within one half year next after my decease. Item I give and bequeath all the rest of my goods cattle and chattles? And grain in the house and in the barn and all my household stuff implements and household unbequeathed unto my loving wife Heaster Morgan to her sole?………? And maintenance.

Lastly I do nominate and appoint the said Heaster my wife to be sole executris of this my last will and testement in witness whereof I have unto put my hand the day and year first above written.

Roger Jenkin 1723

This indenture made the thirtieth day of November in the third year of the reigne of our soveraigne Lord James the second by the grace of God of England Scotland France and Ireland King defender of the faith &c Annoq Dni 1687 betweene the Right Hono’ble George Lord Bergavenny of the one part and Roger Jenkins of the parish of Goytrey in the County of Monmouth yeoman of the other part. Witnesseth that the said George Lord Bergavenny for and consideration of the sume of ten pounds of lawfull English money to the said George Lord Bergavenny paid by the said Roger Jenkins in the name of a fine and of the rents and covenants hereinafter reserved hath demised granted and to farme letten and by these p’sents doth demise grant and to farm lett unto the said Roger Jenkins all those two parcells of rough ground called or known by the severall names of Coom Kellyn and Brin Vaur now or late in the tenure or occupation of the said Roger Jenkins lying and being in the said parish of Goytrey except out of this p’sent demise all mines and quarryes of stone oar or any other mettall other than stones to be imployed and used in and upon the p’misses to have and to hold the said p’misses with the appurtenances unto the said Roger Jenkins his heirs and assigns for ands dureing the lives of the said Roger Jenkins, William Jenkins & James Jenkins two of the sonnes of the said Roger Jenkins and lives and life of the survivors & survivor of them yeilding and paying therefore yearly unto the said George Lord Bergavenny his heirs or assigns the sume of eight pence current money at or upon the feasts of the Annunciation of the blessed Virgin Mary and of St Michaell Th’arch Angell by equall porcons and also the sume of five shillings for and in the name of a herriott at the death of every person dying seized of the p’misses by vertue of these p’sents and likewise doeing suit to the Court of the said Lord Bergavenny his heirs and assigns to be held for the Lordship of Bergavenny. And if it shall happen the said yearly rent of eight pence or any part thereof to be behind and unpaid by the space of fifteen days next after any of the said feast days in which the same ought to be paid (being lawfully demanded) then it shall and may be lawfull to and for the said George Lord Bergavenny his heirs and assigns into the p’misses to reenter and the same to have againe repossess and enjoy as in his or their former estate any thing herein contained to the contrary notwithstanding and the said George Lord Bergavenny doth by these p’sents authorize and in his place putt Andrew William of Lanvayr Gilgidin in the said County of Monmouth to be his true and lawfull attorney for him and in his name and place to enter upon the p’misses or any part thereof in the name of the whole and to give possession thereof unto him the said Roger Jenkins according to the tenor of these p’sents. In the name of God Amen I Roger Cadogan the elder of the parish of Goytre in the County of Monmouth gent., being sick and weak in body but of good and perfect memory thanks be to Almighty God doe make and ordayne this my Will and Testament in writing in manner and form following [that is to say]

Ffirst I committ my soule into the hands of Almighty God my maker and Jesus Christ my saviour and redeemer and my body to the grave to be buryd in Christian burial and as for my wordly estate I dispose thereof as followeth:

Imprimis: I give, devise and bequeath unto Henry my son the sum of five and forty pounds of lawfull money of Grate Brittain:

Item: I give devise and bequeath unto my granddaughter Anne Cadogan daughter of the said Henry the sume of five pounds of like lawfull money to be payed by my son Roger Cadogan the younger out of my messuages lands and tenements lying and being in Goytre aforesaid, and my will and meaning is that the sume of six pounds ye amount be ? and payed out of the same unto Mary my wife for and during the terme of her natural life, and my further will and meaning is that the said sume of five and forty pounds be not ? and payed by my said son Roger untill one whole year after the decease of the said Mary my wife and from and after the severall payments aforesaid:

I give devise and bequeath the same unto the said Roger his heirs and assigns forever.

Item: I give devise and bequeath unto the said Roger one feather bed with it’s appurtenances, one brass kettle and the great table in the hall and one great coffer and so for the rest and residue of all my goods and chattels whatsoever, I give, devise and bequeath the same unto the said Mary my wife whom I nominate and appoint sole executrix of this my will, revoking and annulling all forever and other wills by me made.

In witness whereof I the said Roger Cadogan the elder have hereunto set my hand and seal this nine and twentyeth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and one.

In the name of God Amen the 12th day of November in the year of our Lord God 1751 I Robert Williams of the parish of Goytrey in the County of Monmouth yeoman being sick and weak in body but of sound perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God therefore calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament: That is to say: Principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it, and for my body I recommend it to the earth to be buried in a Christian like and decent manner att the discretion of my executor hopeing to have pardon for my sins by the mighty power and mercy of God. And as touching such worldly estate where with it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form.

Imprimis I give and bequeath to James Howell husband to Margarett my wife’s niece all and singular my lands messuages tenements whatsoever with full and free liberty and power to cutt any cordwood or any trees growing on my lands for his own purpose without doing any willfull waste as cutting young oaks or apple trees or the like waste. I give my lands and tenements as above mentioned to James Howell and his now wife during their natural; lives excepting out of my lands yearly and every year the sum of two pounds and tenn shilings of good and lawfull money of England to be raised or levied out of my lands and to be payd to my sister Jane the widow of Thomas Mirick yearly and every year during her natural life by the said James Howell or Margarett his wife or their heirs but and if the above named James Howell and Margarett his wife or their heirs do neglect to pay the fifty shilings yearly; I do give power to my sister Jane to enter into one half of my land for the payment therof. And it is my will that the [said] James Howell shall have six months liberty to pay the money after the time that the money is due and the same liberty to his heirs after … And after my sister Jane’s decease I do give two pounds and tenn shilings of lawfull money to Sarah my niece and daughter of the sd Thomas Mirick and Jane my sister to be payd by James Howell or his heirs yearly and every year during her natural life but and if the sd James Howell or his heirs do neglect to pay the fifty shilings of good and lawfull money every year to the sd Sarah Mirick I do give power to her to enter into one half of my land for the payment thereof. And after Sarah Mirick’s decease if so that she have no children or child by marriage out of her own [body?] alive after her I do give all my lands to James Howell and Margarett his now wife and their heirs for ever. But if Sarah Mirick aforesaid have children or child of her own body alive after her I give two pounds and tenn shilings every year to be payd to her children or child by James Howell or his heirs and then for ever but and if the said James Howell or his heirs do neglect to pay Sarah Mirick’s children or child if she have any after her I do give power to them or him to enter into one half of my lands for the payment thereof. It is my will that James Howell and Margarett his wife cannot sell my lands nor take money in it if it do happen that my sister Jane and Sarah Mirick do die before them having no child but it is my will that James Howell’s children or child by Margarett his now wife shall enjoy it and their heirs for ever after their father and mother’s decease.

I likewise give to James Howell and Margarett his now wife all my houshould goods and moveables excepting out some small quantity of goods my brother Hector Williams left in my house which I give to my sister Jane as soon as I be buried. I also give to James Howell the sum of thirty pounds that lieth in the hands of John Gwilim of Goitrey viz as morgage in his land, and tenn pounds that lieth in the hands of John Rosser son of James Rosser of Goitrey parish aforesaid and tenn pounds that lieth in the hands of Walter Edwards of Lannover dier by Bonds. I do give power to the sd James Howell or his heirs to take and keep the morgage papers and the wrightings of John Gwilim’s land aforesaid with the two Bonds of John Rosser and Walter Edwards aforesaid and rise the money when he please without any leave or consent of the executor. I also give to James Howell a cow called Brithi and a heifer called Lilly and a mare coult and a calf and my piggs and my … and my cheese and butter and meat and corn and hay and so forth.

I likewise constitute make and ordain Margarett widow of Thomas Williams my brother to be my executor if she will be willing to manage the affair her self or take some honest man in this my neighbourhood to assist her and bury me decently and hansomely. I desire James Howell and his wife to take care that I shall be buried as I do desire and have a good grave stone upon my grave and a man of this parish of Goitrey to work the stone for my grave. But if she choose not to be my executor I do choose James Howell to be in her stead. I give to my couson James Griffiths and his three children five pound a piece that is twenty pounds between them to be payd by my executor so soon as she cane rise them where they be due.

Item I give to David Griffiths two children five pound a piece that id tenn pound between them to be payd by my executor so soon as she can rise them. I give to the poor people of the parish of Goitre one pound to be distributed by William Andrews of this parish to them that are not troublesome to the parish. I desire the executor to pay the twenty shilings by the space of one month to the hand of William Andrews aforesaid. Item I give to my sister Jane Mirick above mentioned … called? … so soon as I be buried. If she do not go in my own use I mean the …   It is my will that James Howell do put his two sons James and John apprentices to some trade that the lads liketh.

I likewise give to my Godsons William Evans and William Howell five pound a piece of good and lawfull money to be payd by my executor so soon as she can rise them where they be due as aforesaid.

I also distribute of my few cows after this manner except I do live to use them my self. If so be the executor is not to be called in question or give any account concerning them.

I do give to Mary daughter of the within mentioned James Griffiths a cow called Smily? as soon as I be buried.

Item I give to Ann daughter of the within mentioned David Griffiths a cow called Mwyny as soon as I be buried.

Item I give to Jane Mirick my sister a cow called Hoyuen? as soon as I be buried.

Item I give to Sarah daughter of the said Thomas Mirick a cow called Rowny as soon as I be buried.

Item it is my will that every man or woman that payeth me interest of money shall have a pair of new gloves att my burial.

Item I give all my wearing apparrel to the within mentioned James Howell.

And I do utterly disallow revoke and disannul all and every other former Testaments Wills and legacies bequests and executors by me in any ways before this time named Willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament. This Will was proved at Landaff on the nineteenth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty two before the Reverend Mr Thomas Charles, Clerk, the Chancellor’s Surrogate, by James Howell one of the executors in this Will named, who was first on the holy Evangelists personally sworn well and faithfully to execute the same, to exhibite an inventory &c & to render a just account of his administration of the same, when thereunto lawfully required (Margarett Williams, widow, the other executrix in this Will named renouncing the burthen of the execution thereof)

I do hereby give power and authority to Ann Griffiths my couson to be executor or manage the sd affects in my stead by reason of my old age and not able to travell. In the name of God Amen this seaven and twenteeth day of June one thousand six hundred ninety two I Richard William Griffith of Goytre in the County of Monmoth yeoman being sick in body but of sound & perfect memory thanks bee to Almighty God, doe make and ordeine this my last Will & Testamt in maner following revoaking all other Wills by mee formerly made.

First I give and bequeath my soule into the hands of Almighty God hopeing through the meritoreious death & passion of Christ Jesus my Saviour to have full pardon of all my sins and my body to bee buryed in Christian buryall in the church of Goytre, and as to that pte of tempall goods wch God hath bestowed upon mee I dispose of the same as followeth.

First I give unto my son James five busshells of eatch sort of graine and corne wch is now growing and standing on my lands, and also all my implem’ts of husbandry. It I give unto my sayd son the table boord and formes which stand in my hall. It I give unto my grand child An Morgan forty shillings to bee layd out by my daughter Maud for her use and advantage till shee comes to the age of fifeteene yeares. It I give to my daughter Jane ye least of my brass pots. It I give unto my grand child Mary Morgan two ewes and lambs. It I give betweene others of my daughters Maud, Katherine & Elizabeth all my goods catle and chattles as well with in doores as wth out to bee equally disposed betweene them, and in case they cannot agree upon the divident amongst themselves, my will is yt Will Morgan my nephew of Lanvayre Gilgedin & Thomas Ridley of the same shall decide the controversy, they being hereby desired and chosen to bee ov’rseers of this my Will. Last of all I hereby nominatt and appoint my three daughters Maud, Katherine & Elizabeth to bee joynt executrixes of this my Will. Wittness my hand & seale the day & yeare above written. And as touchinge the disposicione and devise of all my landes and tenements sett lienge and beinge in the pishe of Goytrey and Countey of Monmoth I give and bequeath the same and every pte and pcell thereof togeather wth all and all maner of houses and buildinges scituate lyeinge and beinge in and upon the sayd lands and tenements wth all and all maner of comodities and rights belonging and appteyninge to the same and all and singular theire appurtenances to William Phillipp one of the sonnes of my brother Phillipp Thomas and his heires forever.

In the name of God Amen the tenth day of August in the yere of our Lord God accordinge to the computacon of the Church of England one thousand six hundreth fiftie and seaven I Richard Llewelin of the pishe of Goytre in the Countie of Monmoth and diocs of Landaffe smith caleinge to remembrance the uncertentie of mans life not knowinge how where nor when these our mortall bodies shalbe disolved and mindinge by God’s grace to setle in order such transitorie things as God hath blessed mee wthall to the intent my mind may be unburthened wth the care thereof whensoev’ it shall please God to calle for mee or ells to visit mee wth more extreamitie of sickness beinge now sick in body but of good and pfect memorie laud and praise be given unto Almightie God doe make and ordaine this my last will and Testament in writtinge in maner and forme folowinge (that is to say)

First and principally I doe comend my Soule unto Almightie God my creator and to Jesus Christ my redeemer through whose most precious death and passion I hope to have forgivenes of all my sinns and my bodie to be buried in Xpian buriall.

Alsoe I doe give and bequeath to my graundchild Edward George all the howshould stuff wch I have now remayninge in the house of John Jones wch I heretofore did lend to my sonne George and Jenet his then wife (except the pann? wch I have heerein before alreadie bequeathed.

Item I doe give and bequeath the use and occupation of the rest of my houshould stuff all my corne growinge threshed and unthreshed moneye oweinge to mee & my goods and cattell unbequeathed alreadie all my debts payed my fun’all expences dischardged to my said wife Juhan for and duringe the terme of her naturall life only uppon condicon that Juhan my said wife shall enter into securitie to my overseers heereafter to be named wthin six monthes next after my decease to the use of my sonne John Richard that the moneys corne goods cattell and houshould stuff or the value thereof shalbe and remaine to my sonne John Richard after the tyme of the decease of Juhan my said wife soe much as shall then remaine not spent by her uppon necessaire occations.
