In the name of God Amen the twentieth day of December in the third year of the Reigne of our Sovereign Lord George the Second by the grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King defender of the faith &c and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred twenty and nine I Thomas Jenkins of the parish of Goytre in the County of Monmouth Esquire being sick and weak in body but of a sound disposing mind memory and understanding do make constitute appoint and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner and forme following, that is to say first and principally I commend my soul into the hands of Allmighty God my redeemer and my body I committ to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executrix hereinafter named. And as to my worldly estate goods and effects wherewith God hath blessed me, I give devise, bequeath and dispose of the same in the following manner and forme, that is to say.

Imprimis I do hereby give devise and bequeath all that messuage tenement or mansion house wherein I now dwell with all the houses outhouses barns buildings yards folds gardens orchards lands tenements and hereditaments whatsoever thereunto belonging with the appurtenances scituate and being in the several parishes of Goytre and Lanover in the said County of Monmouth and now in my own occupation, accounted to be of the yearly vallue of fourty seven pounds or there abouts and allso all that messuage tenement and lands with the appurtenances scituate and being in the parish of Kemeys Commander in the said County of Monmouth and now in the tenure of my tenant Henry Walter at and under the yearly rent of five pounds. And allso all that my tenement lands and hereditaments with the appurtenances scituate and being in the parish of Rockfield in the said County of Monmouth and now in the tenure of my tenant John Jenkins at and under the yearly rent of five pounds. And allso all that my messuage tenement and lands & hereditaments with the appurtenances scituate and being in Gwehelog and Lancayo in the said County of Monmouth and now in the tenure of my tenant Francis Jones at and under the yearly rent of five pounds. And allso all that my messuage tenement lands and hereditaments with the appurtenances scituate and being in Gwehelog aforesaid and now in the tenure of my tenant William Powell at and under the yearly rent of four pounds and tenn shillings. And allso all that my tenement lands and hereditaments with the appurtenances scituate and being in the parish of Landenny in the County of Monmouth and now in the tenure of my tenant Thomas Jenkins Esquire at and under the yearly rent of three pounds and tenn shillings. And allso all that my messuage tenement lands and hereditaments with the appurtenances scituate and being in the parish of Whitson in the said County of Monmouth and now in the tenure of my tenant Edward John Howell at and under the yearly rent of five pounds. And allso all that my messuage tenement lands and hereditaments with the appurtenances scituate and being in the parish of Ragland in the said County of Monmouth and now in tenure of my tenant Thomas Poyskin at and under the yearly rent of twelve pounds. And allso all that my messuage tenement lands and hereditaments with the appurtenances scituate and being in the parish of Ragland aforesaid and in tenure of my tenant William Penry at and under the yearly rent of three pounds. And allso all that my messuage tenement lands & hereditaments with the appurtenances scituate and being in Ragland aforesaid and now in the tenure of my tenant John Cooper at and under the yearly rent of five pounds. And allso all that my messuage tenement lands & hereditaments with the appurtenances scituate and being in Ragland aforesaid and now in tenure of my tenant John Scudamore at and under the yearly rent of six pounds pounds and tenn shillings. And allso all that my tenement lands & hereditaments with the appurtenances scituate and being in Gwehelog aforesaid and now in tenure of my tenant John Prichard at and under the yearly rent of two pounds and twelve shillings. And allso all that my messuage tenement lands and hereditaments with the appurtenances scituate and being in Landenny and Gwehelog aforesaid and now in tenure of my tenant Peter Williams at and under the yearly rent of six pounds. And allso all that my tenement, lands and hereditaments with the appurtenances scituate and being in Ragland aforesaid and now in tenure of my tenant Maud Powell at and under the yearly rent of nine pounds. And allso all that my tenement lands & hereditaments with the appurtenances scituate and being in Gwehelog aforesaid and now in tenure of my tenant John Barnett at and under the yearly rent of one pound and fifteen shillings. And allso all that my tenement, lands and hereditaments with the appurtenances scituate and being in Ragland aforesaid and now in the tenure of my tenant Charles Powell at and under the yearly rent of sixteen shillings unto my loveing wife Winifred Jenkins (excepting and allways reserving out of this devise all woods and underwoods now growing or to grow on all or any part of the above mentioned premises and free liberty of ingress, egress and regress at all times to view, fence, fell, cutt, cord, cole, work, convert and carry away the same) to have and to hold all and singular the said messuages, lands, tenements, hereditaments and premisses above mentioned with the appurtenances (except as before excepted) unto my said wife Winifred Jenkins for so long time after my decease as she shall continue and remaine a widow and unmarryed, and in case she shall after my decease inter marry or take another husband then and immediately from and after such her intermarriage with any person after my decease I give, devise and bequeath all and singular my said messuage tenement or mansion house wherein I now dwell with all the houses, outhouses, barnes, buildings, yards, folds, gardens, orchards, lands, tenements and hereditaments whatsoever thereunto belonging of the said yearly value of forty seven pounds or thereabouts with the appurtenances unto my loveing son William Jenkins to have and to hold unto my said son William Jenkins his heires and assigns forever. And all other the messuages, lands, tenements hereditaments and premisses above mentioned with their appurtenances (except the said woods and underwoods above excepted as aforesaid) I give devise and bequeath unto my said wife Winifred Jenkins for and dureing the terme of her natural life in full recompense of her dower or thirds she may claim out of my reall estate, and from and after her decease I give devise and bequeath all the said last mentioned messuages, lands, tenements and hereditaments and premisses with the appurtenances unto my said son William Jenkins his heires and assigns forever. Item I give devise and bequeath unto my loveing daughter Mary Jenkins all that my messuage, tenement, mill, lands and hereditaments with the appurtenances scituate and being in the parishes of Goytrey and Lanvair Kilgiddin in the said County of Monmouth and now in tenure of my tenant Henry Daniell at and under the yearly rent of nineteen pounds to have and to hold unto my said daughter Mary Jenkins for so long after my decease as she shall be a minor or untill she arrive at the age of one and twenty years and when she shall arrive at the said age of one and twenty years, then I give, devise and bequeath unto my said daughter Mary Jenkins all that said last mentioned messuage tenement, mill, lands and hereditaments with the appurtenances in tenure of the said Henry Daniell at under the yearly rent of nineteen pounds as aforesaid, and allso all that my messuage, tenement lands and hereditaments with the appurtenances scituate and being in the parish of Lanvair Killgiddin aforesaid and now in tenure of my tenant William Morgan at and under the yearly rent of thirty pounds to have and to hold the said last mentioned messuages, mill, lands, tenements and hereditaments in tenures of Henry Daniell and William Morgan with the appurtenances unto my said daughter Mary Jenkins her heires and assigns for ever. But and if my said son William Jenkins shall within ten years next after my said daughter Mary Jenkins shall arrive at the age of one and twenty years pay or cause to be paid unto my said daughter Mary Jenkins the full summe of seven hundred pounds of lawfull money of Great Britain in lieu thereof, then in such case after such payment made to her of the same, I do hereby declare, order and denounce the aforesaid devise and bequest to her of the aforesaid messuages, lands and premisses to be thenceforth void and determined and hereby then order her to sign, seal and execute sufficient release and releases thereof unto my said son William Jenkins his heires and assigns for ever. Item I give, devise and bequeath unto my loveing daughter Winifred Jenkins all that my messuage tenement lands & hereditaments with the appurtenances commonly called by the name of Carne Leach scituate and being in the said parish of Lanover and County of Monmouth aforesaid and now in tenure of my tenant Francis Joshua att and under the yearly rent of twelve pounds, and allso all that my messuage, tenement, lands & hereditaments with the appurtenances scituate and being in the same parish of Lanover aforesaid and now in tenure of my tenant John George at and under the yearly rent of three pounds to have and to hold unto my said daughter Winifred Jenkins for so long after my decease as she shall be a minor or untill she arrive at the age of one and twenty years, and when she shall arrive at the said age of one and twenty years, then I give, devise and bequeath unto my said daughter Winifred Jenkins all the said last mentioned messuages, lands, tenements and hereditaments with the appurtenances in tenures of Francis Joshua and John George as aforesaid, and allso all that my messuage, tenement, lands and hereditaments of mine scituate and being in the aforesaid parish of Lanvair Killgiddin commonly called by the name of Penylan and now in tenure of my tenant Thomas Harry at and under the yearly rent of three pounds (but subject to a rent charge all ready laid thereon of fourty shillings a year) with the appurtenances, and allso all that my messuage, tenement, lands and hereditaments with the appurtenances scituate and being in the aforesaid parish of Lanvair Killgiddin and late in tenure of my late tenant Robert Long deceased at and under the yearly rent of twenty and eight pounds, and allso all that my messuage, tenement, lands and hereditaments with the appurtenances scituate and being in the aforesaid parish of Goytrey and now in tenure of my tenant William James at and under the yearly rent of five pounds to have and to hold the said messuages, lands, tenements and hereditaments last mentioned to be now or late in the said tenure of Francis Joshua, John George, Thomas Harry, Robert Long and William James with their appurtenances unto my said daughter Winifred Jenkins her heires and assigns for ever. But and if my said son William Jenkins shall within ten years next after my said daughter Winifred Jenkins shall arrive at the age of one and twenty years pay or cause to be paid unto my said daughter Winifred Jenkins the full summ of seven hundred pounds of lawfull money of Great Brittain in lieu thereof, then and in such case after such payment made to my said daughter Winifred of the same, I do hereby declare, order & denounce the aforesaid devise and bequest to her of the aforesaid messuages, lands and premisses now last mentioned then to be thenceforth void and determined and I do hereby order her then to sign, seal and execute sufficient release and releases thereof unto my said son William Jenkins his heires and assigns for ever. Item I give, devise and bequeath unto my said son William Jenkins all those my said messuages, lands, tenements and hereditaments herein before mentioned scituate in the parishes of Lanvair Killgiddin & Goytrey aforesaid and now or late in the tenures of Thomas Harry, Robert Long, William Morgan and William James to have and to hold unto my said son William Jenkins for so long after my decease untill the same shall respectively by virtue of this my Will come and belong unto his said sisters Mary Jenkins and Winifred Jenkins as aforesaid but redeemable to him his heires and assigns as aforesaid. Item I give, devise and bequeath unto my said son William Jenkins all and singular my messuages lands, tenements and hereditaments whatsoever not hererein before devised or mentioned with their appurtenances and allso all the woods and underwoods now growing or being or which shall grow or be in or upon any of my lands tenements and hereditaments wheresoever scituate in the said County of Monmouth with free liberty of ingress, egress and regress at all times to view, fell, fence, cutt, cord, cole, work, convert and carry away the same the better to enable him to raise the said summes of seven hundred pounds apiece for his said two sisters Mary and Winifred in order to redeem the aforesaid messuages, lands, tenements and hereditaments to them herein before bequeathed and devised. Item I give, devise and bequeath unto my said wife Winifred Jenkins all that tenement, lands and hereditaments with the appurtenances commonly called by the name of Hendre Baskell and allso another tenement of lands thereunto adjoyning commonly called John Bevans Lands both scituate and being in the parish of Ragland aforesaid and now in tenure of William Evans my tenant at and under the yearly rent of fourteen pounds and allso all the messuage, tenement, lands and hereditaments with the appurtenances scituate in the parish of Brungwyn in the said County of Monmouth and now in tenure of my tenant Walter Morgan at and under the yearly rent of two pounds and ten shillings to have and to hold unto my said wife Winifred Jenkins her heires and assigns for ever on condition nevertheless that she her heirs or assigns do pay in lieu thereof the summ of one hundred pounds a piece of lawfull Brittish money unto William Harries and Thomas Harries junior and allso the summe of fifty pounds of like lawfull money to Winifred Harries (sons and daughter of her brother in law Thomas Harries) with all interest due for the same (being legacies bequeathed by them in the last Will and Testament of their grandfather Henry Lewis gentleman deceased) and that at such times and manner as the said Will directs reference being thereunto had. Item I give and bequeath unto my said wife Winifred Jenkins the summe one hundred and four score pounds of lawfull Brittish money which I entitled unto as executor of the said Will of the said Henry Lewis or otherwise, the same being charged laid and secured on lands and tenements now or late of Edward Watkins gentleman and scituate in Lannarth or elsewhere in the said County of Monmouth as by mortgage deeds in my custody may appear, with all interest due thereupon to have and to hold unto my said wife Winifred Jenkins her executors administrators and assigns on condition nevertheless that she her heires exors admors or assigns do pay in lieu thereof the summ of one hundred pounds to Joan Price daughter of William Price of Cummerll gent and allso the summ of fifty pounds to my daughter Mary Jenkins, being their legacies left them in and by the said Will of their grandfather Henry Lewis deced with interest for the same at such times and such manner as the said Will directs. Item I give and bequeath all the rest of my goods chattles and personall estate whatsoever unto my said wife Winifred Jenkins to her own proper use & benefit. And it is my will and the true meaning hereof and I do hereby order direct and declare that in case my said son William Jenkins and daughters Mary Jenkins and Winefred Jenkins should all happen to decease before they arrive at the age of one and twenty years leaving no issue of their bodies lawfully to be begotten behind them, or such issue die before such issue arrive at the age of one and twenty years, then and in such case I do hereby give, devise and bequeath all and singular my freehold messuages, lands, tenements & hereditaments with the appurtenances (except what is herein devised to my said wife her heires and assigns) after the severall deceases of my said son and daughters and their issue under age as aforesaid and the decease of my said wife Winifred unto and equally amongst my two nephews David Williams and Reginald Williams (sons of my sister Mary Williams) and to and equally amongst their heires & assigns for ever equally to be divided. And of this my last Will and Testament I do hereby constitute and appoint my said wife Winifred Jenkins to be the sole executrix and I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint Robert Hughes of Trostrey in the said County of Monmouth Esquire and Giles Meredith of Lanellen in the said County of Monmouth Esquire to be trustees and overseers of the due execution & performance of this my Will and hope they will please to accept of the said trust and in case of my said wife’s decease before all or any of my said children do arrive at the age of one and twenty years, then I do hereby constitute the said Robert Hughes & Giles Meredith and the survivor of them to be guardian or guardians to my said child or children & to take care of their education, to whom I committ the same. And hereby revoking, annulling & makeing void all and every former Will & Wills by me at any time heretofore made, executed and published I constitute, declare, publish & appoint this to be my last Will & Testament. In the name of God Amen. The fourteenth day of August One thousand seven hundered and seventy eight. I Thomas Jenkin of the parish of Goytre in the comnty of Monouth. yeoman being sick in body but of good and perfect memory, thank be to Almighty God, and calling to rememberance the uncertain estate of this transitory life and that all flesh must yield to death, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following. First of all I recommend my soul to God who gave it and my body to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executrix hereafter named and as for my temporal estate, goods, cattle and chattles as God was pleased to bestow upon me, I give and dispose in manner following. I give and bequeath unto Thomas Jenkin the son of my brother William Jenkin the house whom where I now dwell the gardens, orchard, outhouses and all the? belonging after the decease of my wife. I also order and bequeath that the said Thomas Jenkin my nephew shall pay forty shillings unto Elizabeth the daughter of my dear brother Jenkin Rosser within twelve months time next after his being in possession of the premises and in case the said Thomas shall neglect or refuse to pay the said forty shillings my will and meaning is that the said premises shall discharge the same. All the rest and residue of my goods, chattles and effects of what nature or kind soever or wheresoever the same may be at the same time of my death I give and bequeath to Henry Rogers whom I appoint sole executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void all former will or wills by me at any time made.

I give, devise and bequeath unto David Jenkins and Elizabeth his wife, who are now residing with me, all my estate, real and personal whatsoever and wheresoever the same may be at the time of my death.

And I appoint the said David Jenkins to be executor of this my will, hereby revoking all former wills by me at any time made.

In the name of God Amen I Sarah Farquhar widow of the parish of Goytre in the County of Monmouth being of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding but mindful of my mortality do this ninth day of October in the year of our Lord 1834 make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say. First I desire to be decently buried in the churchyard of Trevethin without any funeral pomp and with as little expence as may be.

Also I give and bequeath unto my sister Mary Cotton of London the sum of thirty pounds.

Also I give and bequeath unto my brother Samuel Hill the sum of thirty pounds.

Also I give and bequeath unto my sister Jane Cleobury the sum of thirty pounds.

Also I give and bequeath unto my nephew Francis Hill of Pontypool the sum of five pounds.

Also I give and bequeath unto my niece Mary Jacob of London the sum of five pounds.

The above legacies to be payed within twelve months after my decease in full.

Also I give and bequeath the residue of my personal property to be equally divided between my seven children viz, Anne the wife of the Revd J Evans, Llanover; John Farquhar; Mary Farquhar; James Farquhar; Elizabeth Farquhar; Jane Farquhar; Sarah Farquhar after payment of my just debts funeral and testamentary expences and the expences attending the execution of this my Will. It is my will that the legacy bequeathed to my daughter Jane Farquhar shall be for her sole use. And I hereby direct my executors herein after named to stand possessed thereof in trust for her. The legacies to my said several children to be paid within twelve months after my decease. And I do hereby ordain and appoint my son John Farquhar and my son in law the Rev Jno Evans executors of this my last Will and Testament. Appeared Personally John Farquhar of the Town of Bridgwater in the County of Somerset Gentleman and the Reverend John Evans of the parish of Lanover in the County of Monmouth, Clerk, the joint   Executors named in the last Will and Testament         of the said   Sarah Farquhar formerly of Goytra but       late of the parish of Ragland         in the said County of Monmouth widow         deceased, who died on the   eleventh         day of   December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty four     and made Oath that the Estate and Effects of the said deceased, for and in respect of which a Probate of the said Will is to be granted, exclusive of what the said deceased may have been possessed of or entitled to as a Trustee for any other Person or Persons, and not beneficially, and without deducting any thing on account of the Debts due and owing from the said deceased, are under the value of one thousand   Pounds, to the best of these       Deponent’s knowledge, information, and belief.
